Roseville, Sydney
Brief
The owners wanted an attractive garden space that would be a
transition between the house and the games room. They also wanted a space for
relaxation, gardening and play. This was achieved through the beautiful, yet
practical use of water, sandstone and perfumed plants, which gives the garden an
added sensory quality.
Design
Simple geometric shapes have been used to create a well-defined
and striking garden. This concept has enabled the garden to be enjoyed from two
different levels; one being an overview from the elevated verandah, the other
being at ground level. Sandstone plays a pivotal role in creating the boldly
contrasting patterns, from the overscaled sandstone slab paving at the back, to
the serpentine sandstone block wall at the front. The geometric theme is
continued in the rectangular water-feature with its smooth, clean lines and the
double-terraced retaining walls.
